Course Outline:
This course was designed to teach you to identify and treat the different presentations of TMD.
- You will learn to recognize the muscular dysfunction from joint pathology.
- You will understand which clinical symptoms are related to muscle pathology (myofascial pain) versus joint pathology, (internal derangements or inflammatory conditions) and how to treat each one.
- You will be introduced to a whole body concept in the development and treatment of TMD
Course Objectives:
- Understand the clinical characteristic of Myofascial Pain Syndrome
- Understand the contribution of MPS to TMD
- Identify and treat relevant Myofascial Trigger Points in the masticatory muscles
- Identify and treat internal derangements of the TM joint
- Identify and treat inflammatory or arthritic conditions of the TM Joint

2-DAY COURSE OUTLINE
TMD: DAY ONE
8:00 am-12:00 pm
• Rationale History
• Skull and muscle anatomy overview
• Symptoms of TMD
• Myofascial Pain Syndrome
• Palpation Techniques
1:00 pm -5:00 pm
• Referred Pain Patterns: masseters, temporalis, pterygoid, hyoids, digastrics, SCM, trapezius
• Treatment- trigger point release, ice and stretch
TMD: DAY TWO
8:00 am -12:00 pm
Internal Derangements, Arthritic Conditions:
• Identifying internal derangements
• Treatment for internal derangements
• Identifying arthritic conditions capsulitis & synovitis
• Treatment for arthritic conditions
1:00 am -5:00 pm
• TMJ complete evaluation
• Patient exercises
• Patient education
